The Nakache Winter Pool in Toulouse had been closed since July 25. It will remain so and no reopening date has yet been announced.
Steel degradation
The reason ? A degradation of the steels of the floor of the small pool revealed in July during the usual maintenance work.
“An additional study, to carry out in August a permit to better identify the problem but nevertheless requires more specific investigations which are currently being carried out with the support of a design office specialized in the analysis of the corrosion of steels . As a precautionary principle, the small basin and the technical installations of the two basins contained below are no longer usable, making maintenance of the large basin impossible, ”explains the City of Toulouse.
Swimming lessons canceled
An inventory of the structures will make it possible to consider several scenarios for the renovation and reopening of the large basin. It will be completed at the beginning of the last quarter of 2022. The small basin will remain closed until future work.
“The swimming school lessons scheduled for the start of the school year have, to date, been canceled and solutions are being sought to reschedule the school lessons concerned in other swimming pools”, announces the town hall.
Relocate sports clubs
In addition, the Sports Department has started working on the relocation of certain clubs, including the Dauphins du TOEC to Léo Lagrange.
Finally, the Town Hall of Toulouse has decided to open the Chapou swimming pool from 12 to 7 p.m. from 12 to 25 September as well as Bellevue Nordique from 2 to 18 September, the annual emptying not being possible given the prefectural shutdown linked to the state of drought.
pool wear
The Nakache winter swimming pool, built in 1934, is classified as a historic monument as a remarkable Art Deco building. Several years, it is affected by a certain wear which had already been identified during the development of the Plan swimming pools.
“Unfortunately, this corrosion has suddenly accelerated and is now causing its closure,” laments the town hall.
