German falls backwards at summit photo – dead!
He wanted to take another photo of his companion, took a few steps back – and then fell into the depths…
Fatal summit accident in the Austrian mountains! A hiker from Germany had an accident there on Sunday. As the police reported on Tuesday, the man from the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt and his companion climbed the Greitspitze (around 2900m high) in the municipality of Ischgl on Sunday.
The 77-year-old first took a summit photo of the woman with his cell phone – according to oe24 a 63-year-old Spaniard – made. Then he went back. The police report said: “The man obviously overlooked the fact that he was already in the immediate vicinity of the abyss.”
He lost his balance and fell backwards over a 60 meter high, partly vertical rock face and was fatally grabbed in the process. A witness who also monitored herself on the mountain top and monitored the accident immediately alerted the rescue workers.
According to oe24, the casualty was rescued by a police helicopter with a rope; the mountain rescue finally brought him down into the valley.
