“Beautiful Hungary, my sweet country” – the celebration of our founding in the Highlands
It was called by many different names, there was also the Feast of Bread and the Feast of the Constitution of the People’s Republic. No matter how they tried to suppress it in the name of “dare to be nobody”, the twentieth of August still – always, forever – sends a message: no matter how the borders are drawn by thieving hands, the continuity of our thousand-year-old statehood is unquestionable, there is something to build on, something to be proud of. Today is about this – in the mother country, in the separated parts of the country and everywhere in the world where only Hungarians live. God bless you, Hungary!

In Nagyabony, there will be a celebration from 5 o’clock, a statue will be inaugurated in honor of the founder of the state, Szent István. And behold a divine miracle, the rain stopped at the beginning.

Sorrowful Szent István Days
As part of the St. István Days in Somorja, a wreath-laying ceremony accompanied by a festive program took place at the statue of St. István on the square named after the ruler.
László Gubík, the president of the Association for Common Goals and the founding director of the Esterházy Academy, addressed the audience in Somorja in the spirit of permanence. In his speech, he highlighted
that we must remain, not only nationally united and strong Hungarians, but also Christians, because Christianity is our past, our strong root, which is the basis of our future.
On St. Stephen’s Day, the crowd not only celebrates, but also remembers the events that resulted in them being able to celebrate together. As he said, the strong families that carry life, the strong nationalities, must remain, as the struggle never ends. Our future obliges us, because the Hungarian community has a mission: to remain Hungarian as Christians.
“We Hungarians are battle-hardened in building a people who fear their freedom and a country that fears self-determination, so we have no choice but to continue living according to Szent István Intelmei: ‘If you persevere, you will save your souls’,” concluded László Gubík. (Tímea Németh)
“Home is there as long as there are those who love it”
In Rimaszombat, the Friends’ Circles organize the St. Stephen’s Day celebration for the seventh year, and they were able to meet for the third time in the city’s Main square on August 20.
“I admit, at this time I myself think about what this holiday means to us, young people, and what message it carries. What are the determining factors in the personality and actions of King Szent István that a young person should know, we need it from the point of view of our future,” he asked. Mag Fodor Enikőthe head of the Tompa Center, may have welcomed those present.
Welcome speech Attila Halász, the president of the Rimaszombat district of the Association said. He explained that the moment of our birth is an important event in the lives of all of us, which determines how we start on the path of life, and it is no different in the case of states. King István bequeathed order and predictability.
“In the history of Hungarians, the founding of the state was one of the most important events and a turning point in our lives, a step that guaranteed our survival. We could say that unity is strength”
said Attila Halász. He added that perhaps the existence of unity has never been as important as it is today, even if Hungarians are going through much bigger crises since the founding of the state.
“Without our unity, the survival of our nation and the preservation of our sovereignty is unthinkable,” he said. He then wished for a beautiful future lived in faith and love, peace and abundance.
Festive speech Andrea Mária Philip, the consul of the Consulate General of Hungary in Kassai said. He reminded that Saint István is the symbol of Hungarian statehood, and his main merit is the foundation, construction, consolidation and European integration of the Hungarian state.
“Perhaps on this day, the essence of our Hungarianness is best revealed: to remain here, in the Carpathian homeland, and to pass on to our descendants the unique heritage and the Hungarian mother tongue that we received from our ancestors”
said the consul.
He explained that on August 20, we should remind ourselves that independent statehood is an exceptional, natural state of people’s lives.
“Survival also has rules. It’s home as long as there’s someone to love it. We only have what we can protect. Every game lasts until we win it,” he stated.
Finally, Hungary expresses its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to our separated national communities for their centuries-old standing and loyalty to the Hungarian nation and their homeland.
Marika Páko and her team, Tibor Molnár and the band COOL performed in the one and a half hour show. The highlight of the evening was the fireworks display, about which Zoltán Cziprusz said: “Today, Rimaszombat officially hosted the biggest August 20th fireworks display in the Carpathian Basin. I’m very proud, we never thought this would happen.” (Erzsó Pósa Homoly)
