Marta Carvalho (Extremesul) wins 2nd stage of the U-19 Tour of Portugal
The cyclist Marta Carvalho, from the Algarve team Extremosul/Hotel Alísios/Cenmais, won the sprint, in Benavente, the second stage of the 1st Volta a Portugal Feminina Sub-19, whose “yellow” is still in the possession of Mariana Líbano ( Velo Performance/JS Campinense).
Today’s stage linked Samora Correia to Benavente, on a route of 56.4 kilometres.
The peloton remained compact during most of the race, always under the watchful eye of the leader of the general classification, Mariana Líbano, a native of Maia, and the best cadet in general, the Algarve’s Daniela Simão (Extremosul/Hotel Alísios/Cenmais).
When there were eight kilometers to go, an attack came from Mariana Líbano, Daniela Simão and Marta Carvalho from Almeirina.
The trio still gained some advantage, but was eventually reached four kilometers from the finish line.
The serious victory in the sprint, between Mariana Líbano and Marta Carvalho, who stood out in relation to the peloton in the final meters.
Marta Carvalho was the winner, managing to surpass Mariana Líbano and, in third place, cadet Rita Tanganho (Maiatos/5Quinas/Municipality of Albufeira/CDASJ).

In the general classification, she leads with 32 seconds over Daniela Simão, runner-up, and 35 seconds over Marta Carvalho, third. Daniela Simão wears the white jersey, best cadet.
The last stage of the race, on Sunday, will depart from A-dos-Francos, João Almeida’s birthplace, towards Caldas da Rainha, in a course of 55.6 kilometres.
