World Humanitarian Day: how Belarus helps other countries
During the 63rd session of the UN Assembly, World Humanitarian Day was established on 19 August. The date was not chosen by chance: in 2003, on this day, an explosion occurred at the UN headquarters in Baghdad, which claimed 22 lives, and another 150 were injured of varying severity. Evgeny Baranovsky: “Today, a highly effective system for providing humanitarian assistance has been built in our country, which speaks of international cooperation between states. This is about the values of the freedom of the Belarusian state, about the mentality of the Belarusian people. – To which countries did Belarus send humanitarian aid?
Evgeny Baranovsky: “Since the establishment of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in 1999, Belarus has provided international humanitarian assistance to 32 states 76 times. The largest number of times humanitarian assistance has been in Russia. There were 10 such actions. – To Tajikistan.
– Do Belarusian rescuers return to other countries to overcome the excluded situations?
Alexey Ioffe: “In 2013, assistance was provided to eliminate the consequences of the flood in the Amur Region of Russia. In 2014, Belarusian rescuers went to Serbia to help their colleagues in the aftermath of the flood. Last year, we also helped Tajikistan, when this crisis arose with migrants from Afghanistan. generators, bedding, canned food, thermometers for organizing camps in the border areas.”
– If we talk about more distant countries, where did Belarus send humanitarian aid?

– Are there standard standards for the provision of humanitarian assistance and do Belarusian rescuers comply with them?

Standards for referrals and humanitarian assistance have been developed, which in this situation are fully applied in the Republic of Belarus. In 2013, we passed the first international certification. – What types of humanitarian aid did Belarus provide?
