Mitchell High School teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault | tidings
Mitchell High School teacher Sarah Jones, 45, was arrested Aug. 17 and charged with sexually assaulting a child in a position of trust.
Colorado Springs School District 11 recently placed Jones on administrative leave after learning of the allegation.
Devra Ashby, D11’s chief communications officer, said the district cannot comment as it is a CSPD investigation.
On August 18, Michael Gaal, the supervisor of D11 sent out a press release regarding Jones’ arrest.
“Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of all students,” Gaal said. “These alleged allegations are serious and violate state statutes and D11 Board of Education policies, and we will continue to work cooperatively with investigators to protect our students.”
The Colorado Springs Police Department PIO’s Twitter page said Jones, a library technology educator and swim coach at Mitchell, said CSPD learned of the alleged sexual assault on June 14 and recently obtained a warrant for Jones’ arrest.
“In [Aug. 17] detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Ms. Jones, who later turned herself in to authorities and was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center,” the tweet said.
Jones is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m
