Moscow was not prepared for Switzerland to go along with the EU sanctions. Boris Bondarev, the Russian UN diplomat in Geneva who resigned because of the Ukraine war. The Kremlin assumed that Switzerland would remain a safe haven for business, be it legal or illegal.
That was naive, but it really happened, said the ex-diplomat in an interview with the newspaper “Le Temps” on Wednesday. Bodarew, who resigned in protest, currently lives in Switzerland.

Bodarev also commented on the Russian strategy in the war. The Kremlin is waiting for the western population to tire. Moscow will let Europe freeze in the winter and hope that public opinion will change course. This change of opinion should subsequently persuade politicians to bring Ukraine into negotiations with Russia.
