Childcare: New projects in communities
social
While there are complaints about a lack of childcare in many places, there are now specific projects in two Salzburg communities. Saalfelden (Pinzgau) has already started building a crèche. Mattsee (Flachgau) wants to start building a new kindergarten today.
The market town of Mattsee is planning a kindergarten for 130 children. It should be ready for occupancy in autumn 2023. The kindergarten is currently still housed in the municipal office, which is unfavorable in terms of traffic, says Mayor Michael Schwarzmayr (SPÖ).
“In addition, we currently have a lot of children in Mattsee. The 100 childcare places that we can offer in total are filled to the last place. Therefore we want to rebuild with the possibility of an extension. That was also the end of the tender.”
Saalfelden: small children meeting seniors
The city of Saalfelden is also reacting to the enormous need for childcare places. Above all, the demand for children under the age of three is very high. The construction of a toddler group center for eight groups has already begun. There are currently spare rooms for 16 children in containers.
A “Young meets old” project is also in preparation, and two small groups are to be set up in the Farmach retirement home this fall, says Mayor Erich Rohrmoser (SPÖ). “Small children should then spend more time with seniors with professional help. Both groups should benefit from these cross-generational contacts”. All in all, Saalfelden wants to double the number of its toddler group places to almost 100 by 2023, adds Rohrmoser.
