Portuguese couple detained in Spain can serve time before coming to Portugal
Sidney and Nélida can be tried and sentenced in Spain before coming to Portugal. The pair were detained Saturday night while eating a hamburger in the car in Zamora, in the neighboring country.
An investigating judge in Zamora will decide tomorrow, Monday, whether Sidney Alberto and Nélida Cristina will answer first before the Portuguese or Spanish courts. They’re being nominated for at least four robberies across the border and across the border. They are also suspected of a triple homicide in Bragança that may have triggered this wave of violence and crime.
From what JN learned from a judicial source, there are two close scenarios on the table: Siney, 42, and Nélida, are arrested to answer for crimes in Spain, and may even eventually serve time before coming to Portugal, or they are liberators. In this case, he was soon arrested again in the light of the arrest warrant issued internationally by the Algarve and Fundão.
It should be noted that, for example, they are arrested in Spain, as local authorities, giving access to the same Portuguese defendants as defendants, for the robbery of the Bragança homicide, of which they are suspected, but which is still under investigation. The authorities of the two countries are in a state of contact.
Couple did not resist arrest
One of the most publicized recent leaks ended the day before last night without a single shot being fired. Sidney and Nélida were surrounded and surprised by several agents of the Spanish National Police when they were eating a hamburger in a car in Zamora.
They had been recognized by a citizen who alerted the authorities. Plainclothes agents were sent to detect the red couple eating discreetly in a stolen car days earlier in Madrid. They discreetly circled the vehicle. Then, out of the blue and weapons in hand, they ordered the pair to be arrested. With no chance of escape, Sidney and Nélida surrendered without resistance. They will stay at the Provincial Commissariat of Zamora until they are brought before a judge on Monday.
