Inc. threatening the e-Endiose dwellings for Abrantes and the biggest concerns
Dwellings scattered throughout the forest area are one of the firefighters’ concerns. There are injuries to be reported. Fire forced the evacuation of a river beach and a cattle ranch. Wind inspires care in the response on the Abrantes side
The fire that started to burn at the end of this Sunday in Tomar is a threat to housing, having passed to the neighboring municipality of Abrantes. The information was confirmed to CNN Portugal by the District Command of Relief Operations (CDOS) of Santarém.
In question are dwellings scattered in the forest, next to the river Zêzere. “The means are being organized to the possible protection in order to try to make the maximum protection of the dwellings”, The means explained the commander to the dwellings.
The fire, confirmed the official, developed in two and two: one on the river side and the other on the Abrantes side. The Abrantes fire followed several fire projections from Tomar. According to the spokesperson, there are several “key points”.
By 9:00 pm, the fire that most inspired concern was on the Abrantes side. CNN Portugal confirmed the existence of threats, all firefighters. Two had assistance in the end they had to receive and another dwelling took when defending one.
At the beginning of the night, the fire had three active fronts in the municipality of Abrantes and “at least two fronts” in Tomar, said the commander of the CDOS of Santarém. 80 vehicles, 260 firefighters and 10 air assets were mobilized. Filipe Regueira said that, given the “violence and speed” of the fire and the strong wind that was felt in the place, it was not possible to remove the houses. Those responsible choose to keep people at home.
Anabela Freitas, from the Municipality of Tomar, later explained to CNN Portugal that the increase in wind is a major issue of concern. On the Tomar side, she added, “the main concern is to give the fire [como estando] in resolution, which is not yet”. There was, therefore, a change of means to Abrantes, where the flames withstand more resistance.
“We had to evacuate a river beach and a cattle ranch. And we have the record of a burned shed”, said the mayor, adding that there are no houses in danger and praising the performance of air resources for a more effective control of the flames.
At midnight, the district commander of Santarém, David Lobato, told CNN Portugal that three fronts were still active, with two operations highlighted for the defense of villages, Maxial de Além and Fontes. The mayor, Manuel Valamatos de Abrantes, called them to wait, as they were controlled during the night, praising the number of means mobilized.
The first alert was given at 17:36 in the parish of Olalhas, belonging to Tomar.
The videos and photographs that reached the newsroom of CNN Portugal show intense smoke in the place.
