Vaucluse. An old 38-meter lime tree felled in Avignon
Passers-by and visitors to the Parc de la Cantonne asked themselves many questions this Tuesday afternoon, August 9, around 3 p.m. when they saw an unusual scene, the felling of one of the oldest trees in the park.
Indeed, the pruning company Fayard (Le Thor) intervened at the request of the town hall of Avignon, in order to prune and cut down an old silver lime tree 38 meters high, as a matter of urgency.
As for the reason for this decision, it is not a health reason. The silver linden was not sick as one might have imagined. The reason ? It is a very large branch, which fortunately broke off without consequence, but required the rapid complete felling of the tree. According to the employees of the intervening company, it was not possible to simply prune the tree. Killing him was the only solution.
Fortunately, the professionalism of the pruners present on the site made it possible to carry out this delicate work without damaging the neighboring trees and the street furniture, such as the benches and the nearby lighting. It took three days for the team on site to complete this delicate project and find this Thursday, August 11, the tranquility of the park.
