San Lorenzo: Msgr. Tasca (Genoa), “thanks to the deacons for their service to the Christian community”
“On the day of the patron saint of permanent deacons, our thanks go to those who dedicate themselves to this service for the Christian community”. This was stated by the Archbishop of Genoa, Msgr. Marco Tasca, in the mass he celebrated yesterday in the cathedral of San Lorenzo, on the day dedicated to the memory of San Lorenzo deacon and martyr. As reported by the site of the diocese, the prelate concentrated in particular on the phrase from the Gospel of St. John: “If the grain of wheat, which falls to the ground, does not die, it remains alone; if it dies, you will produce a lot of fruit ”. Msgr. Tasca abandoned to those present that loneliness is not bad and that death is not true loneliness. Addressing those present, he then stated that “the inability to die leads to loneliness”. “It may seem a strange concept – he stressed – in fact Christ does not want to see us dead, but he asks us to stop being a ‘caterpillar’ because he wants to get out the ‘butterfly’ that is in us”. In fact, “we are often led to trust more in the love of ourselves than in the Gospel, but Jesus teaches us that we will produce fruit only if we are not perched on our ideas and convictions”. “We must grasp the sign of the times that the Lord gives us now to live – he concluded – and I invite all the pastors of our parishes to have the eye of the Holy Spirit to help those brothers who are generously preparing for this type of service “.
