Non-profit kindergartens: Fear of staff loss
training
On Wednesday there will be a summit between the state and the non-profit childcare facilities, which is about higher wages. While wages in public kindergartens will rise significantly in the coming year, the non-profit organizations that depend on subsidies have not been able to keep up here so far. There is a risk of staff loss.
In the city of Salzburg, starting salaries for kindergarten teachers will increase by 500 to 700 euros from next year. The other municipalities also want to adapt their salary scheme to that of the city. This means that the earnings of around 70 percent of the 4,000 kindergarten teachers in the state will increase significantly in the coming year. The privately organized non-profit childcare facilities therefore fear a massive outflow of staff if their fees are not significantly increased. They demand the same money for work, explains Cornelia Ernst from the childcare interest group.
Emergency aid package for inflation demanded
Since 80 percent of the non-profit organizations are financed by grants, the state is challenged here. An adjustment to the height in the public sector would cause additional costs of around 8.5 million euros. In addition, the non-profits are demanding an additional emergency aid package against inflation. One would have to suffer from this this year because the subsidy rates had not been adjusted accordingly. Without support from the public purse, the parents’ contributions, which are already between 300 and 400 euros, would have to be increased again, the carriers warn.
