From Portugal to the world. Comics by Filipe Melo adapted for the television series
“Balada para Sophie”, a soap opera created by Filipe Melo and Juan Cavia, adds and follows. After being nominated for four Eisner Awards, the most recognized awards in the field, the comic will be adapted into a television series.
The production is in charge of Universal International Studios, through IDW Entertainment, advanced the “Deadline”. At this time, IDW has five series in development, all adapted from graphic novel stories.
“The opportunity arose thanks to our publisher, Top Shelf/IDW, and the incredible people who work there,” Filipe Melo said to “SAPO Mag”. “We are used to a very homely and small work structure. All this is surreal, the book went infinitely better than we expected. For me, it’s very motivating, it’s really a huge joy”stressed the artist.
Juan Cavia and Filipe Melo create “Balada para Sophie” for five years, which tells the rivalry between two French pianists, who compete in a competition in the 1930s. Years later, Julien Dubois, one of the pianists, now retired, receives a visit from a journalist who convinces him to tell his life stories.
In addition to “Ballad for Sophie’s books”, the remaining accessories of the projected band: “Rivers” (HBO Max), “Brutal Nature” (Ánima Studios), “The Delicacy” (WBTV) and “Dark Spaces: Wildfire” will be adapted. (UCP).
