SALZBURG (red). It was actually the premiere of Leoš Janáček’s “Káťa Kabanová” – the penultimate opera premiere of this year’s Salzburg Festival, which premiered on August 7th at the Felsenreitschule.
Prominent guests in front of the Festspielhaus
But the tenor Jonas Kaufmann almost stole the show a bit: because while the premiere audience was already cavorting in front of the Festspielhaus, the starter was still patiently signing autographs for his fans and posing for selfies. Before that, Kaufmann sang at a song recital in the Great Festival Hall.
Festival President Kristina Hammer and art expert Agnes Husslein use the artistic break between the concert and the opera to change. Husslein came with gallery owner Thaddaeus Ropac and author Christoph Ransmayr and his wife Judith. Also among the premiere guests were the former Festival President Helga Rabl Stadler, who came together with ex-Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik. Also among the guests: Director Claus Peymann, actress Monika Peitsch, Eva Maria Baronin von Schilgen and Princess Elisabeth Auersperg-Breunner.
