From September, the EU will support students at the University of Salzburg with an Erasmus exchange program worth more than half a million euros. So far, the Erasmus program has been limited to exchanges within the EU. The new funds will also support students who want to study outside of Europe.
The University of Salzburg has partner universities in 36 countries, such as in Tanzania, Brazil and Canada. Students at the University of Salzburg can study at universities abroad and, conversely, the University of Salzburg also offers places for international students.
17 departments are involved in the funding application
The European Union wrote the new, global funding program for the first time. 17 departments of the University of Salzburg are working on the funding application. This had a positive effect on Salzburg’s application and the university received EUR 510,000 in funding in this country, which no other Austrian university achieved, says Peter Mayr, head of the International Relations department at the University of Salzburg.
“Contacts to regions outside Europe used”
“We contacted many professors who already have very good contacts with universities outside of Europe. We then organized ourselves internally and submitted the application together.” Students at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences in Puch-Urstein (Tennengau) will also receive funding of 385,000 euros over the next three years.
