About a third of the countries included 106 studies analyzed in 13 European countries, Portugal, in the second quarter, not in scope of LIFE AskarEACH, contains at least one substance hazardous to health and the project.
The advanced information was advanced this Sunday by the environmental association Zero, which manifested itself with the results of the analysis carried out within the scope of the European LIFE AskREACH project, in the second quarter of this year.
Of the 106 articles analyzed by an independent and accredited laboratory, from 13 countries a third, including Portugal, “about one chemical substance and 10 containing these substances above 0.1%, which means that a set of articles available on the European market still contains substances that can have significant impacts on health and the environment.
According to Zero, these are substances that can be carcinogenic, bioaccumulative, persistent or interfering with the hormonal system.
The analysis gave preference to DIY, gardening and swimming articles.
“While we are consuming knowing if an article we want us to understand consumer concern (SVHC) we are currently knowing the association, remembering that we are legally identifying the consumer, its brand is legally being informed to the consumer ( SVHC) requested, if the product contains some substances in a concentration greater than 0.1% by weight”, as this is a right enshrined in the European chemical regulation “REACH”.
To facilitate communication between businesses and consumers as well as along the supply chain, 13 organizations from 13 European countries under the LIFE AskREACH project, funded by the Union LIFE programme, which developed the Scan4Chem application (‘app ‘), which allows consumers to scan a product’s barcode and send a request for information about the presence of SVHC.
The application currently has a list of 223 substances, which is updated.
