Rafael Reis defends yellow in the climb to the Tower in the Volta a Portugal
ONE departure for the third stage is given at 13:00, with the peloton of the 83rd edition of the queen race of the national calendar leaving Sertã, for the 159 kilometers of the connection to Torre.
After the Serra de Alvelos category, at 40 kilometers, the cyclists find the flying goal of Oleiros (49.6), before facing new mountain counts, a fourth category located at kilometer 60.8 and a third, in Orvalho, at 72.7.
Once the Fundão (119) and Covilhã (138.8) goals are crossed, the peloton begins the 20.1 km climb to the ‘fearsome’ Tower.
The goal coincident with the special category mountain award, will be reached by the slope that many consider the most complex of Serra da Estrela, with the first continental set at the highest point in Portugal (1,993 meters) to be expected around 17:25 .
Rafael Reis is nine seconds ahead of second only, his teammate Mauricio Moreira, and third, or British Oliver Rees (Trinity Racing).
