Toulouse: a building invaded by maggots, the inhabitants exasperated by the situation
For several weeks, dozens of maggots have invaded the common areas of a building located in Toulouse.
Near a building located in the Lardenne district of Toulouse, a young man wearing a yellow vest works back and forth pushing large gray containers of household waste. He is in charge of taking out the bins and cleaning the room for storing bins in this residence located at 36 chemin de Beauregard. Every day, this employee constantly cleans the building’s garbage room. But for several weeks, the inhabitants of this building made up of forty apartments have been complaining of an invasion of maggots.
Supporting photos and videos, they show how these little white worms cover the floor of the building hall. “I have just come down from my apartment and I have to slalom so as not to step on it or get on my feet,” says a man who has lived here for more than ten years. For him, these invasive critters are only the reflection of the lack of hygiene and respect of certain inhabitants. “When the garbage room is not accessible, people have assumed the garbage bags on the floor. Sometimes the bags are not closed so the flies come and lay,” continues this father, exasperated by the situation.
On the ground, near the entrance to the hall, cans of soda, prepared meals… “I pity the person who does the cleaning here, he spends his days picking up behind people”, cowardly, annoyed by this sad spectacle, this inhabitant. Contacted by us, “Heritage”, the social landlord in charge of this building “tries everything to limit the proliferation of maggots”. “Someone comes daily to clean up but with the high temperatures Coupled with the fact that garbage collection has been reduced lately, the maggots continue to develop”, argues Stéphanie Erales, director of rental and heritage management at Patrimoine . She insists on the fact that “to fight against maggots, everyone must work in the same direction”.
