Political ticker: Tempo 30 dispute at the green table
There is a heated political debate about the Tempo 30 working group in the city of Innsbruck. The situation of the city employees and employees must be improved quickly, criticism of employee mobility survey.
INNSBRUCK. There is a little excitement in the party headquarters. The background is the working group on the Tempo 30 question, which the municipal council decided on. Christine Oppitz-Plörer from Für Innsbruck has now left this working group. “The debate is not open-ended, the ideological orientation of the Greens and the meaningfulness,” she gives as reasons. She gets praise and criticism from other parties for this.
The GR degree
In the municipal council meeting on March 24, 2022, the decision was made to set up a working group and to assign the topic to the city senate to deal with independently:
- The municipal council is in favor of introducing Tempo 30 as the preferred speed. Exceptions to this are federal and state roads and through roads to be defined by the municipal council.
- The thoroughfares are determined by a municipal council working group involving all municipal council parties. Particular attention should be paid to the area surrounding educational and childcare facilities.
- By the end of 2022, the working group has to present the thoroughfares to be excluded to the municipal council for a decision.
- On the basis of this resolution on the results of the working group, the draft ordinance for a nationwide 30 km/h limit away from federal, state and through roads is to be drawn up by the responsible municipal offices.
Majority decision (against FPÖ, ÖVP, TSB and GERECHT, 14 votes): The above amendment by GR Buchacher is assigned to the city senate for independent completion.
“Area-wide speed brake 30”
“We fully understand the withdrawal of Liste FI from the working group on the nationwide 30 km/h speed limit in Innsbruck.
With their ideology-driven approach, the Greens drove the working group on the 30 km/h speed limit to the wall at full speed. In addition, the working group was misused in advance of information events in the districts for the self-portrayal of green visions.
The People’s Party has declined to take part in this working group from the start. The exit of the FI once again confirms that we made the right decision here,” is how the Chairwoman of the Transport Committee reacted today, GR Mariella Lutzin a broadcast on the exodus of the FI from the municipal working group.
sword of Damocles
“But the nationwide 30 km/h speed limit is far from off the table, the great sword of Damocles still hovers over Innsbruck’s motorists, because as Mayor Willi himself announced in the print medium today, he remains stubborn and wants to continue making a proposal for the FI despite the FI’s departure from the working group Introduce Tempo 30 in a local council. Everyone must be clear who votes green in the expected elections – Tyrolean state elections and Innsbruck municipal council elections – who also votes for the nationwide Speed Brake 30 in the municipalities,” warns VP-KO Christoph Appler.

refusal to work
“The FPÖ is doing it, yellow and black are doing it: that despite the majority municipal council decision to introduce Tempo 30 in Innsbruck, except on regulated thoroughfares, the right-wing factions completely ruled out the meetings of the working group set up for this purpose and the public appointments with the citizens , for the Greens this is “a pure refusal to work”, like that green club chairwoman Janine Bex announced in a broadcast.
“Mayor Georg Willi brings the responsible offices together after a majority of the municipal council decision and goes to the districts to hear the opinion of the citizens. And the right-wing factions use the newspaper to inform the citizens that they are not interested in traffic calming.”
criticizes the green club chairwoman, according to which the “backroom factions” act against the decision of the municipal council and against the wishes of the citizens.
Excerpt welcomed
“Right from the start, Just Innsbruck spoke out against a nationwide 30 km/h speed limit in Innsbruck, and repeatedly warned that the discussion on the part of Innsbruck’s green mayor was purely ideological, and the actual purpose of 30 km/h zones, where the same are necessary and make sense, is only of secondary importance for the Innsbruck Greens,” explains GR Gerald Depaoli in a broadcast. “I also pointed out to Georg Willi at the information events on Tempo 30 that it is simply untrue if he wants to tell the people of Innsbruck that the municipal council has already decided on a nationwide Tempo 30!”
“Just Innsbruck therefore welcomes the departure of FI city councilor Christine Oppitz-Plörer from the working group on the nationwide 30 km/h speed limit – Plörer from the table. Mayor Georg Willi, through ideological fault of his own, drove a nationwide 30 km/h with 100 km/h into the wall in Innsbruck!” says councilman Gerald Depaoli.
“It remains to be seen whether the working group at the 30s still has democratic legitimacy after FI city councilor Oppitz-Plörer left the working group, especially since the Innsbruck municipal council is only represented by a minority in this working group. Every other mayor of Innsbruck, apart from Georg Willi, would recognize the political reality after City Councilor Christine Oppitz-Plörer left, dissolve the working group, cancel the information events and finally tick off the topic of nationwide Tempos 30 in Innsbruck! Only Mayor Georg Willi is still waiting for a miracle for the nationwide 30 km/h speed limit in the Innsbruck municipal council. A miracle that is guaranteed not to happen,” concludes Councilor Gerald Depaoli.
Mobility survey secondary
“In view of the many complaints from urban faces, one can only be amazed at the priorities of the Greens and their city councilor Uschi Schwarzl, but no longer be surprised,” explains SP club chairman Helmut Buchacher in a broadcast. “Instead of conducting a long overdue survey on the sensitivities of city employees, as I requested, they are asked about their mobility. It is precisely the municipal employees who, to the best of their knowledge and belief, maintain ongoing operations for the citizens and those responsible for politics. This despite the fact that accusations such as demotivation, bullying, inappropriate tone, shouting, self-resignations, staff shortages and high turnover of staff are also being made from the mayor’s office,” criticizes Buchacher.
“These grievances must be remedied immediately and the causes determined with a transparent employee survey. Mobility behavior can be taken into account as a side note in such a survey. Because satisfied employees are the basis for success!”concludes Helmut Buchacher.
