Thanks to reaching the quarter-finals at the European Championship in England, the Austrian soccer players have made up a place in the world rankings published by the world association FIFA on Friday and are now in 20th place – the previous top ranking was also equalized. The selection of ÖFB team boss Irene Fuhrmann was placed so far at the top, in December 2020 you were also 20.
The ranking continues to be led by US women. European Championship finalists Germany, who beat Austria 2-0 in the quarterfinals and lost the final 2-1 aet, made up three places and edged out Sweden from second place. European champions England climbed four places and are now fourth.
Since June 17, 2022, four new teams have been added to the world rankings: Cambodia (120th), Turkmenistan (137th), East Timor (152nd) and Guinea-Bissau (169th). The world rankings from August 5, 2022 set a new record with 185 FIFA member associations.
