Corona traffic light for Austria set to yellow
The Corona Commission emphasized the “still given importance of the corona vaccination to combat the pandemic and to protect the hospitals from overload”.
Vienna. The Corona traffic light is set to yellow for all of Austria. According to the decision of the Corona Commission on Thursday afternoon, there is a medium risk for all of Austria and the six federal states of Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Tyrol. The risk is high in Vienna and Burgenland, which is why they are orange, Vorarlberg was the only federal state that was switched to yellow-green. Thus, there is a low risk in the westernmost federal state.
As of August 3, the load on the intensive care units was a Covid-specific occupancy rate of 3.8 percent, based on all reported adult intensive care beds in Austria. The beds in the normal wards across Austria were 3.7 percent Covid-specific. The Commission referred to the forecast consortium, according to whose expectations the coating on the normal wards should decrease to 2.6 percent in the next two weeks and to 3.1 percent in the intensive care units.
The Corona Commission emphasized the “continued importance of the corona vaccination to combat the pandemic and to protect hospitals from overload, especially against the background of the declining immune protection in the population against severe courses”. Covid-19 medicines are just as important to protect against severe disease progression, and in this context the commission recommended increasing the use of such medicines.
