“Even small steps in everyday life can make a big difference and save costs at the same time,” is the motto of the ministry.
The Austrian Ministry of Climate Protection has published tips on its website on how the citizens save energy be able. For example, that when you are thirsty, you should drink cold rather than warm water or that cold water is sufficient when washing your hands, brushing your teeth or washing up food, as reported by Heute.at.
There are also tips for the use of energy-saving shower heads or flow limiters, as well as the advice to «shower less long and do without one or two baths».
Plug in the sink saves a lot of hot water
The Ministry of Climate also gives washing-up tips: “The most energy-efficient way is to use a dishwasher, but if you don’t have one, here are some washing-up tips,” says the website.

Ministry keeps publishing tips
Numerous energy-saving recommendations had already been issued by the ministry beforehand. It doesn’t matter whether it’s “shower instead of bath”, “seal doors and windows”, “bleed radiators and clear furniture” or “increase the refrigerator temperature”.
Energy Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) has always emphasized that the gas supply in Austria is still guaranteed and that the storage facilities have already been well filled, but her ministry is diligently publishing further proposals to reduce energy and electricity consumption as efficiently as possible.
Small steps with greater savings
“Even small steps in everyday life can make a big difference and save costs at the same time,” says a Facebook post by the Ministry of Climate Protection. There are now six tips on the ministry’s social media channel – the last one was only put online at the beginning of August and relates to cooking.
“We are cooks with a lid, Consumption up to 40 percent less energy. A small but efficient contribution to saving energy together in the current situation – thank you!”, the ministry continues in the article.
