Near Toulouse, Lac de la Ramée remains closed for several days
We know more about the date of reopening of Lac de la Ramée, located in Tournefeuille, south-west of Toulouse. Closed since July 22, it should be accessible again from Saturday August 6 according to Toulouse Métropole. A date announced under certain conditions, the algae responsible for the closure being under surveillance.
Heat may promote algae growth
The high temperatures expected in the coming days should favor their development, accentuated by the drop in the level of the lake. This is caused by the bans on pumping in the rivers due to the drought”, explains the community first.
“Daily monitoring of algae and water turbidity is in place”, continues Toulouse Métropole. If an improvement is notable, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) will then carry out new analyzes in order to “be able to consider a possible opening of swimming from Saturday August 6”. This reopening is therefore dependent on the evolution of the incriminated bacterium.
Water ‘too murky’ to provide lifeguard
Remember that La Ramée beach is closed due to the presence of an algae, cyanobacteria, in the water of the lake. Dangerous for humans as well as animals, it can be responsible for skin irritations, tremors, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, etc. In addition, these algae “make the water too cloudy to allow monitoring of swimming”, assures Toulouse Métropole.
Note that the Closing of Lac de la Ramée had already been decided for the same reason a little earlier in July, as well as in the summer of 2021. A measure which comes as a new heat wave is about to sweep over France.
