Toulouse and its agglomeration on drought alert
The hot weather returns. Since June, the episodes of intense heat follow one another and from this Monday, August 1, a new wave of heat is back in Toulouse and its region. Faced with these record temperatures, the prefecture of Haute-Garonne is setting up a drought alert in Toulouse and its agglomeration from Tuesday August 2, 2022.
The Garonne basin very impacted
These scorching times have created “an abnormally tense situation throughout the Garonne basin”, explains Toulouse Metropolis on its website. The drying up of rivers has accelerated in the department: “The Garonne downstream from Portet is one of the rivers on alert”, informs the metropolis.
It is for this reason that all the communes of Toulouse Métropole are placed under this drought alert. All, with the exception of: Aigrefeuille, Beaupuy, Colomiers, Cornebarrieu, Dremil Lafage, Cugnaux, Mondouzil, Mons, Montrabé, Saint-Orens, Pibrac, Pin-Balma, Tournefeuille and Villeneuve-Tolosane.
Restrictions put in place
The municipalities concerned will thus respect the measures of restriction of water withdrawals set up by the prefecture of Upper Garonne and the Water Vigilance Committee. They will be in force from Tuesday August 2 at 8 a.m. until Wednesday August 31, 2022, “unless the measures are lifted or extended according to the evolution of hydroclimatic conditions”.
Every day, from the drinking water network, the individuals concerned cannot:
- wash cars outside professional stations;
- water lawns and green spaces between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (vegetable gardens are not affected);
- fill and level the private swimming pools during the day (from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.);
- fill or maintain recreational water bodies for personal use.
The prefecture of Upper Garonne specifies that “for users with sampling points outside the drinking water network in the municipalities concerned, pumping is prohibited between August 2 and August 31, from Monday 8 am to Tuesday 8 am”. Note that during these periods of drought, the right reflexes are as follows: avoid letting the water run; limiting the watering of the garden; use full washing machines and install water-saving equipment.
