Liverpool vs Strasbourg result: Young Reds overpowered in 3-0 loss at Anfield
Liverpool ended their 2022/23 pre-season campaign with a 3-0 home defeat to Strasbourg as a young Reds side struggled against their French visitors.
After winning the Community Shield 24 hours earlier, Jurgen Klopp was forced to rotate his entire starting XI at Anfield, with a squad full of teenagers on display.
Their inexperience was exploited immediately by a strong Strasbourg attack with defensive errors punished for goals by Adrien Thomasson and Habib Diallo early in the game, before the former netted a deserved third for his side.
Klopp’s charges fought valiantly after the restart but could find no consolation, before kicking off their Premier League campaign at Fulham on August 6.

Klopp’s young guns fail to impress in Anfield audition
With wholesale changes imposed by Liverpool’s pre-season schedule, a starting XI missing from us top flight was always going to struggle against a seasoned side.
However, as well as struggling with Strasbourg’s physique, Liverpool’s highly rated youngsters were unable to maintain their concentration and use their ability to develop possession.
Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho showed some flashes of promise but other fringe players will be disappointed with a missed opportunity on the night.

Gomez and Konate struggle again as replacements for Van Dijk and Matip
Klopp rotated his centre-back partnership during pre-season with first-choice pair Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip both returning.
Van Dijk and Matip were both rested after completing 90 minutes in the Community Shield with Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez drafted.
Both players were overtaken by Benjamin Sesko’s winner against RB Salzburg, and despite having more experience than the majority of starters at Anfield, they still struggled.
Strasbourg’s goals came from full-back errors, but neither Gomez nor Konaté exuded leadership from the center as their Premier League opportunities took a hit.
