Index – Homeland – The rain broke a record in Hungary
The National Meteorological Mixed Service had the same opinion about Saturday’s precipitation, because, as they wrote, one eye is crying and the other is laughing because of yesterday’s weather.
The precipitation zone of the cold front, which everyone was waiting for, passed through Hungary on July 30, but it did not affect all areas. There were places in the country where rain would have been much needed because of the drought, but not even a single drop fell.
Only in a large part of the country compared to the previous period, a significant amount of rain fell and also in areas that received abundant precipitation. But the previous daily precipitation total also fell, as 123.2 millimeters of rain fell in Tiszakarád in one day. The most recent record was set by Fertőrákos in 2014, when 105.8 millimeters of precipitation fell.
However, not only Tiszakarád had significant rainfall. The cold front also brought significant rain to the following locations:
- Balmazújváros Virágosküt – 60.6 millimeters;
- Bank – 50.9 millimeters;
- Mohora – 50.1 millimeters;
- Zabar – 50.1 millimeters;
- Nagyhegyes Elep – 39.8 millimeters;
- Buj Reed Farm – 38.2 millimeters;
- Track width – 36.1 millimeters;
- Sárospatak – 33.3 millimeters;
- Balassagarmat – 30.8 millimeters.
