Cape Verde’s PR defends “serenity” and “intelligence” in Lisbon against the crisis – Observer
The President of Cape Verde said this Sunday, in Lisbon, that a crisis “mainly affects” this African country, defending in times such as the current “serenity” and “intelligence” to adapt “new emerging realities” as policies.
José Maria Neves spoke to journalists at the end of a visit to the Moinho da Juventude association, in Amadora, in the first place of the official visit to Portugal, which started Thursday and ends today.
“The crisis hits Cape Verde a lot”, which is “a very sensitive country and very vulnerable to external shocks, in addition to climatic conditions that have more very strong impacts, such as prolonged droughts, now more severe, more extreme”.
He added: “There is devastation caused by Covid and international instability, particularly the war in Ukraine.”
“The moment is difficult, it is complex, it has brought more inequality, more poverty”, he said.
José Maria Neves defended: “In these moments of transition, of rupture, these disruptive moments, we must have the serenity, the ability and the intelligence to make the best reading and to adapt policies to the new emerging realities”.
For the head of state, “the country is taking measures to mitigate the effects of drought, of bad agricultural years”.
Measures are being adopted to mitigate the effects of the crisis, at the same time that we have to think about adopting and in the long term to create the conditions to diversify our economy to guarantee an exit from the crisis to create conditions to accelerate or medium of transformation country in the post-crisis period”, he said.
He added: “The moment is difficult, it is complex. The Government has a set of measures to deal with the situation; there are partnerships with the international community, we also have to continue to seek understandings and consensus to build a bridge to the future”.
