Three major fires occupied more than 700 firefighters in Portugal
Several attacks by firefighters and Civil Protection agents are currently fighting fires in the north of the country, in the municipalities of central Góis, Goguiamar and Vila Pouca de Açor.
In Gondomar, in the district of Porto, there are no homes at risk, but the fire that started in Foz and Covelo is concerned as authorities, as it will consume weeds in the vicinity of an urban area.
There are close to 90 operatives on site, as José Rodrigues, commander of the National Civil Protection Authority, told Antena 1.
But there are other points of concern.
In the municipality of Góis, district of Coimbra, close to 300 operatives fought a fire at this time that started around three in the afternoon in the town of Alvares.
Authorities hope to bring the fire under control in the next few hours.
As for the fire that started last Wednesday in the municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, in the district of Vila Real and which came to be dominated, had several reactivations.
According to the National Civil Protection Authority’s website at 6 pm, close to a thousand firefighters are fighting ongoing fires across the country, with emphasis on the municipalities of Gondomar, Góis and Vila Pouca de Aguiar.
