The police in Austria arrested an 18-year-old on suspicion of terrorism. The young man is attributed to the Islamist scene, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.
During the arrest on Saturday in Sellrain in Tyrol, the suspect’s mother is said to have tried to run over two officers from the task force with her car. The officers were injured. Both the woman and the son were overpowered and arrested.
“The Directorate for State Security and Intelligence (DSN) has been observing a supporter of radical political Islam for a long time, whose previous appearance has mainly attracted attention in relevant forums through corresponding statements,” said the ministry.
“The Austrian citizen with Turkish roots specified his threats the day before and expressed his intention to actively take action against the police.” Investigations are being carried out both in Austria and abroad.
