Overflying flights Brussels: federal ombudsman draws up noise register
The federal ombudsman of the national airport of Zaventem, Philippe Touwaide, announced on Friday that he has prepared the long-awaited noise register of Brussels Airport. He wants to create another opening in the file of air traffic nuisance. The complete cartography will be presented on Monday 1 August.
As early as December 2003, the sound register was confirmed, but it was never completed. That is why the Federal Air Traffic Ombudsman Philippe Touwaide decided to take matters into his own hands. Together with his team, he mapped out, among other things, the number of overflights per zone around the airport. He contrasted this with the number of inhabitants and the density of the overflown municipalities.
In addition, the document prepared includes, among other things, the global runway use since 1996, the individual noise levels of the aircraft and the number of take-off weights measured by the aircraft. Based on the land registry, the aim is to arrive at sustainable solutions “to bring peace of mind to every resident, taking into account the impact of overflights on health, heart rate and sleep disorders.”
For example, according to Touwaide, a low-emission zone must be received. The airport operator must be created and made to cause the noise and the environment.
“The environment of the Brussels-Naal airport has changed over the last 50 years, however the operation of airport traffic has changed unfortunately, without adapting the flight procedures to the climatic evolution and to urban changes and the change in population density around this airport site,” said Touwaide.
Agreements have been made about aviation regulations, laws, decisions and, in addition, laws that are complied with. “We can no longer tolerate the highest number of violations of the law that we consider very important, especially at night, at Brussels Airport. .” On Monday 1 August, the ombudsman will present the full cartography.
