Friendlies: Rennes beaten by Aston Villa, Clermont defeats Toulouse
After their victory in Nantes, Rennes concluded their preparation with a defeat against Aston Villa (1-2) this Saturday. However, it was the Rennais who opened the score with a powerful header from Arthur Theate (7th), who arrived in Brittany on Friday.
Despite interesting content, Brunio Genesio’s players could not hold this result against a promising Aston Villa team on paper and already impressive on the pitch. The equalizer came from a cross from Lucas Digne which was difficult to negotiate by Leon Bailey, whose volley went into Steve Mandanda’s top corner after a tricky rebound (14′). It was finally the former Nantes player Diego Carlos who gave the Villans victory with a header in the 81st minute.
Clermont and Auxerre winners, Brest suspended
In the other friendly matches of the afternoon, Clermont won against the promoted Toulouse (1-0). The two clubs play a second meeting this Saturday evening at 8 p.m. This is the fourth victory for the Auvergnats during this preparation. A success acquired thanks to Johan Gastien, scorer at the end of the game (75th).
Auxerre, another promoted, was difficult to get rid of Red Star, resident of National (3-2). Kays-Ruiz Atil, who arrived freely after his failed return to FC Barcelona, is registered for his first but under the orders of Jean-Marc Furlan. For its part, Brest did not find the solution against Rayo Valladolid (0-0) a week after their defeat against Guingamp.
