Toulouse: a crossover under close surveillance on the roads
Up to 90,000 cars per hour are expected this Saturday around Toulouse. Police and gendarmes remembered this Friday during checks that the highway code should not be forgotten.
The driver from Bordeaux follows the orders of the police and parks in the Porsche 911. “I was driving too fast?” worries this man. “No. Alcohol test,” replies the policeman. In a few seconds, the test turns out to be negative and the man resumes his journey towards the Paul-Ricard circuit “to drive in complete safety”. Many drivers checked yesterday at the Toulouse-Nord toll were rather following the holiday route.
Alcohol, narcotics, insurance checks … “But also the loading of vehicles, their condition. On the highway, a badly secured suitcase, a badly associated trailer can cause dramas”, indicates the chief of staff of the regional prefect. Precisely a construction van is entitled to a pit stop. “You are tying all this to me”, warns, authoritatively, a major of the national police. Wheelbarrow, shovel and other pickaxes are just placed at the back. The workers run.
Towards Montauban, a young driver caught at 200 km / h
“During this crossover weekend, and all summer too, we are strengthening controls with three particularly closely monitored offences: speed, alcohol and narcotics”. These three causes, statistics show that they are found, sometimes combined, in more than 30% of fatal accidents at the national level. “Since January, Haute-Garonne has already recorded 28 deaths. A stable number compared to 2019, but we feel that drivers tend to relax. Hence the importance of reminding them of the rules to follow”, insists Marc Zarrouati, the chief of staff.
In the space of 2 hours, 407 drivers were checked by the police. Zero alcohol level but a license defect, an uninsured car and 28 various infractions: crossing a white line, telephone while driving, smooth tires, lack of technical control…
Towards Montauban and Bordeaux, the gendarmes of the EDSR monitored speeding. More than twenty were punished.
And towards Montauban, the gendarmes of the Departmental Road Safety Squadron monitored speeds. The first flashed driver was driving with a probationary license and he was caught at 200 km/h! His Mercedes was confiscated, as was his license. Speeding was observed by the gendarmes between 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
