Survey: Catholic Church in Austria continues to lose trust
According to a recent survey, the Catholic Church in Austria has continued to lose trust among the population. As from the published on Friday OGM/APA Confidence Index for July 2022 shows that the church lost 8 points compared to the previous year and ended up in fourth place with a balance of -27 points. Only insurance companies (-30), media and publishing companies (-31) and the Austrian government (-34) were lower in the ranking. Between 2020 and 2021, the church had already lost 5 points in the trust index, when its balance was -19.
The police (+55), the army (+52) and the Chamber of Labor (+50) did best in the current survey, which is said to consist of online interviews with 933 representative voters. The strongest growth compared to the previous year was the population’s trust in the federal army, which was able to gain 20 points. In the survey, the participants are asked about their trust in the most important Austrian institutions. The balance of the answers “I trust this institution” and “I do not trust this institution2 gives the result. (stz)
