According to Palkovics, Hungary is absolutely promising in the automotive industry
The minister added: the automotive industry is the most important sector, its annual output corresponds to 25 percent of the Hungarian GDP, so the government is doing everything to protect the automotive industry. In the motoring industry of the next period, there will no longer be the single, good solution that the internal combustion engine represented until now. However, there will be “more exciting, broader solutions”, and Hungary is prepared for this.
He touched on the following: a few weeks ago, the Environmental Protection Council of the European Union decided that internal combustion engines will not have to be completely phased out from 2035, it will be possible to use carbon-neutral fuel. The head of the ministry expresses his pleasure that the European Parliament will soon be able to accept the relevant legislation. The internal combustion engine can therefore remain, he continued, indicating: Hungary has the world’s largest internal combustion engine factory, and it will continue to operate. In the past, the government also placed serious emphasis on “bringing the battery production capacity to an appropriate state”. He pointed out that Hungary today has a larger battery production capacity than Germany, and based on the new investments, it will remain so. “We play all instruments”, (..) we have a hydrogen strategy, “we are absolutely future-proof”, he underlined.
He also said that the purpose of establishing HUMDA was to be an intermediary organization between the government and competitive sports. Since then, the agency’s remit has expanded to include traffic safety and environmentally friendly vehicles, said László Palkovics.
