The Munich Lions and Borussia have met four times in the DFB Cup in their long club histories. BVB had the upper hand three times, including the most recent meeting between the two teams in 2013. At that time, however, Dortmund only secured their place in the third round in extra time. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored in the 2-0 win of the Black and Yellow. In 1860, however, they also won a cup game against Dortmund. Almost 60 years ago, on April 7, 1964, both teams also met in the first round. 1860 won 2-0 with goals from lion idol Rudolf Brunnenmeier and Wilfried Kohlars.
TSV 1860 Munich has a lot planned this season. After the forced relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga to the regional league in 2017, the traditional club has now re-established itself in the 3rd division and is now entering its fifth season in a row. In the three years under coach Michael Köllner, 1860 has even developed into a promotion candidate and failed in the previous two seasons only just. In the coming season it should finally be so far. The lions have strengthened themselves with the newcomers Martin Kobylański, Albion Vrenezi, Jesper Verlaat, Joseph Boyamba, Christoph Lannert, Tim Rieder and Fynn Lakenmacher with a lot of experience in the third division.
The start of the new season was a direct success for the blue Munich team. In a spectacular game at relegated Dynamo Dresden, 1860 secured three points on the first day of play. The Munich team got off to a good start and after almost 70 minutes they already looked like the sure winner with a 3-0 lead behind them. An own goal and goals from Rieder and Marcel Bär gave the lions a comfortable lead. Then it got wild again. The hosts first scored another goal through Dennis Borkowski before Bär restored the old distance. But then Manuel Schäffler and Borkowski scored again for the Dresdeners, who sniffed the win and drew new hope ten minutes before the end. In the end, however, the race to catch up came too late, and 1860 is delighted with a 4-3 win and the first three points of the new season.
1860 coach Michael Köllner could be forced into one after the successful start against Dresden. Yannick Deichmann had to leave early, Quirin Moll came in for him. The latter is also an option on Friday, but we believe more in Bär, who made the difference with his two joker goals against Dresden. Alternatively, a two-point system in 4-4-2 would be an option.
- Goalkeeper: Hiller
- Defense: Morgalla, Belkahia, Verlaat, Steinhart
- Midfield: Bär, Tallig, Rieder, Kobylanski, Lex
- Storm: sheet maker

Borussia Dortmund will finally win another title this season. Of course, BVB would like to break the ten-year dominance of the permanent champion Bavaria and bring the title to the Red Earth. But a triumph in the DFB Cup would also be balm for the black and yellow soul. The runner-up from the previous season bought a lot for this. With Niklas Süle, Nico Schlotterbeck, Karim Adeyemi, Salih Özcan and Sébastien Haller, there were five exciting and top-class newcomers who will raise the quality of the squad considerably. On the other hand, the loss of Erling Haaland, who moved to Manchester City, hurts. As a replacement for the top scorer, those responsible reacted by signing Haller, who should become the new number nine in Dortmund. But the Frenchman was recently diagnosed with a tumor in his testicles, so he is out for the time being.
Of course, the news of Haller’s illness shocked everyone at the club. The striker now gets the time and rest he needs to regenerate. But even without him, the squad is still extremely strong. With Steffen Tigges (to 1. FC Köln), Axel Witsel (Atlético Madrid), Dan-Axel Zagadou (still unknown) and Marcel Schmelzer (end of career), there is no absolute key player among the other departures, and BVB also has the two substitute goalkeepers who have migrated appropriately replaced. Nevertheless, the preparation of the black and yellow did not go according to plan. In the beginning, BVB clinched three relatively lackluster friendly wins against lower-league opponents. But then it was against stronger opponents, where Dortmund promptly got problems. Borussia lost 1:3 and 0:2 against the Spanish first division teams Valencia and Villarreal. Reinstated coach Edin Terzić stressed that he was not happy with the results. BVB need a better performance on Friday, even as the clear favourite.
In the final friendly against Villareal, Edin Terzić practiced the back three, which consists of three strong central defenders. We can therefore imagine this system for the start of the season without Haller. Alternatively, a 4-2-3-1, 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-1-2 would also be conceivable, in which Mats Hummels would have to make room for another central midfielder like Özcan or Julian Brandt.
- Goalkeeper: Koebel
- Defense: Süle, Hummels, Schlotterbeck
- Midfield: Meunier, Bellingham, Reus, Dahoud, Guerreiro
- Storm: Adeyemi, painting

1860 Munich and Borussia Dortmund have played 46 games against each other in their history, although the two clubs have only met once since 2005. Overall, BVB is ahead with 23 wins, as expected. 1860 won 14 duels, nine more games ended in a draw. The last meeting so far was Borussia’s 2-0 win in the 2nd round of the 2013/14 DFB Cup.
1860 Munich is facing a big highlight early in the season. The well-known BVB-AG comes to the sold-out stadium on Grünwalder Straße, where the lions want to annoy a favorite again. A sensation in the run-up to the game does not seem so unlikely. Because in addition to the home advantage, the Munich team also enjoy the plus point of having already played their first competitive game and thus having a better rhythm. Dortmund, on the other hand, revealed construction sites in the preparation and currently seems vulnerable.
Betting tip 1: We therefore take the risk and are counting on 1860 winning the game or at least ensuring an overtime with a draw after 90 minutes. for one double chance of 1/X there is a 5.00 rate at BildBet.
Betting tip 2: We also believe that both teams will score in this game. 1860 already proved their great potential on offense in the season opener against Dresden with four goals, and there is no doubt about Dortmund’s quality anyway. BildBet offers a 2.00 odd for goals from both teams.
Betting tip 3: In view of our previous tip, a high-scoring game is also possible overall. Despite their offensive class, the hosts also show certain defensive weaknesses on the first day of the game, three goals conceded speak for themselves. On the other hand, the newly formed BVB defense still has to find itself. We therefore bet on over 3.5 goals, for which you can take a 2.00 odd at BildBet.
