Chocolatines, the trunk, the roundabout with the pronounced “in” accent… Here is a summary of what you could hear at the wheel if you choose the voice “Antonine” in your app Waze. This voice is available from the May 31, 2022 on the platform, and was registered directly at the gates of Toulouse.
It’s society France Voice overinstalled at Montrabe near Toulouse, who was in charge of the recording. Contacted by Wazeits director did not hesitate for a second to embark on this adventure.
“Waze contacted us because they had a specific request for a voice from Toulouse. When we found out about that, we had a casting call with several voices. But we knew that Jérôme Pourrut had the voice made for it. He has the accent naturally, without the need to force. And he said yes directly to the project.”
Antonin or Jerome?
Antoninus, this is the name given by Waze for the Toulouse voice of its platform. But behind him hides Jerome Pourrut, comedian and commentator by trade. The Toulousain didn’t hesitate to jump at the chance: “I was very happy with the experience because a lot of people use Waze and therefore hear my voice. It allows me to assert my Toulouse accent because you have to know that I really say the words as I pronounce them on a daily basis. The only thing that is a bit pushed is the “in” of the roundabout. »
To get the result, Jerome Pourrut was helped by a vocal coach and spent two sessions in the recording booth. The texts were sent directly by the Waze appeven if proposals made in Toulouse have been made.
“Waze gave us all the classic texts with a few expressions from Toulouse, but they weren’t all there. So we made additional suggestions, including a sentence with the word “chocolatine”. It was an essential word to have.”
“She felt like I was giving her orders while she was driving!” »
The voice is available on Waze from May 31, 2022. And its success was immediate according to the actor: “I didn’t know when the application was going to insert the voice. One morning I woke up and received messages from people who said they heard me in their car. And that’s something that’s been weird for me: driving my car and hearing my voice behind the wheel.”
But the memory that recalls Jerome Pourrut with a smile concerns his wife: “The first time she heard my voice, she couldn’t stay long with the application because she had the impression that I was giving her orders while she was driving! “.
A Toulouse, a Ch’ti and a Marseillais
The agency France Voice Over recorded a total of three voices for the Waze app. A Ch’ti and a Marseillais are also ready for the exercise. The voices are available on the platform.
As for Jerome Pourrut, experience is a plus. And makes him dream of other ambitions in the city: “Why not one day embody the voice for the sports of Toulouse, like football or rugby? To have a real voice with the accent in the stadiums! It’s something I would like! “.
To be continued…
The “Antonin-Toulousain” voice is available on the Waze platform. To do this, go to the audio settings at the bottom right of the application, go to the voice instructions, and select “French-Antonin-Toulousain”.
