The Venice International Film Festival was one of the first film festivals in the world to show interest in Virtual Reality. The construction of a VR Theater in 2016 aroused enormous interest among the participants of the Venice Production Bridge. Starting from 2017, the Venice Biennale kicked off the first competition for Virtual Reality works among the main festivals, held for three editions, until 2019, on the location of the Lazzaretto Vecchio island on the Lido, with an international jury. The online accessibility of Venice VR Expanded has represented in the last two editions a commitment and a challenge to ensure the presence, within the Venice Film Festival, of the experience of this new art form even in the years of necessary distancing. .
Accredited persons from the Venice Film Festival will have access to all the titles of the program. In addition, a special Venice Immersive subscription will be available for those interested not accredited to the exhibition.
