Shawn Mendes cancels concerts in Germany, Austria & Switzerland
After the Canadian canceled the first shows in North America and got psychological help, he canceled the rest of his planned world tour.
Pulled the emergency brake
Shawn Mendes released his number one studio album, Wonder, on December 4th, 2020. Appropriately, the Canadian dropped various music videos and the announced final end of his “WONDER: THE WORLD TOUR”. At the end of June 2022, Shawn was on stage at the first of the planned 87 concerts…
… and gave six more shows before he had to pull the emergency brake for the first time. He spoke up via Instagram and admitted that he had to take care of his mental health and that he had to cancel some appointments first.
“It breaks my heart to say this but unfortunately I’ll be dying the shows for the next three weeks […] have to be postponed until further notice. I’ve been touring since I was 15 and to be honest it’s always been difficult to be on the road without my friends and family,” Mendes began in the Post, adding that he couldn’t take the pressure anymore. According to the Canadian superstar, the planned tour was scheduled “prematurely” and the stress of the tour overwhelmed him. “I’ve reached a breaking point. After speaking to my team and doctors, I need to take some time to heal and take care of myself and my mental health first and foremost.”
All other shows had been canceled until July 31, 2022.
End of the concert tour
Just four days before his show in the Canadian city of Toronto, Shawn Mendes surprised all fans with bad news: the entire “WONDER:THE WORLD TOUR” has just been cancelled. The musician will neither perform in the north of the USA nor play the shows scheduled for June and July 2023 in Germany, Austria or Switzerland.
“As you know, I’ve had to reschedule the shows for the last few weeks as I wasn’t fully prepared. […] I started this tour with the anticipation of finally being able to play live again after a long break due to the pandemic. However, the reality is that I was completely unprepared for how difficult touring would be after this hiatus,” Mendes wrote, adding, “Unfortunately I have to cancel the rest of the North American and UK/Europe tour dates. We had hoped that after some much-needed time off I would be able to attend the remaining appointments, but right now I have to prioritize my health.”
Mendes himself promises his fans that he will return to the stage “stronger than ever” and hopes that all supporters will understand.
