Helmut Newton and his Riviera years presented in Monaco
“I love the sun, there is no more in Paris”, said Helmut Newton when he moved to Monaco in 1981. Over the years, the fashion photographer has forged a special bond with the south and the shores of the Mediterranean. Many of his photographs pay homage to the Côte d’Azur, which is why the New National Museum of Monaco has chosen to justify an exhibition on this geography in the career of Helmut Newton. The exhibition Newton’s Riviera will be held on the rock until November 13, 2022.
In the 1960s, and since his tragic death in 2004, Helmut Newton photographed the Riviera, and especially in the last twenty years of his life, after settling in Monaco. The period can be considered the most prolific and free of his career as a photographer.
He photographs passing people and inhabitants of the rock, but also the stars of the Ballet de Monte-Carlo, and the main family. In Monaco, the photographer accustomed to fashion photos and portraits tries his hand at landscapes and more original and strange shots, inspired by crime scenes.
