Haute-Garonne: an inmate hangs himself at the Toulouse-Seysses remand center
A 50-year-old was found dead in his cell at the Toulouse-Seysses remand center. This drama occurs while Toulouse lawyers are increasing their appeals to the administrative court to improve the fate of detainees whose prison conditions they consider “appalling”.
A 50-year-old man in pre-trial detention since March for a sex scandal was found unresponsive in Toulouse-Seysses prison on Sunday July 17 in the early morning. He had hanged himself when he found himself for a moment alone in the cell for sanitary reasons.
This tragedy comes at a time when this prison is under the spotlight. The Toulouse Bar Association seized the urgent applications judge of the administrative court to finally enforce the same order taken by this magistrate, on October 4, 2021. He had ordered the prison administration to implement 11 emergency measures to improve prison conditions.
Attentive to the evolution of this file, François Piquemal, the new deputy for the 4th constituency of Haute-Garonne (Nupes), will visit the penitentiary establishment this Friday, July 29 in order to realize for himself the extent of the work to be done.
