A Toulousethe St. Peter’s Bridge take colors! For the past few days, a huge colorful fresco has appeared on this axis reserved exclusively for pedestrians until Monday August 22, 2022.
An ephemeral and biodegradable work
This work, called “Crossing”, accompanied the pedestrianization of the bridge this summer. It is therefore ephemeral. To color it, biodegradable paint was chosen in order to be able to remove it more easily.
The work was produced with the help of agents from Toulouse Métropole between July 19 and 21. Completed since Friday July 22, it aims to “highlight the public space and reveal the heritage”.
A “graphic walk”
Behind these large colorful shapes, we find two artists: Nicolas Delpech and benjamin stoop (Workshop Two Thousand).
“In addition to giving the bridge an aesthetic side with bright and attractive colors, the fact of applying paint helps to lower the temperature on the bridge. There is a real impact. If you pass on the bridge, try to get your hands on the tar, then on the white or the orange. To the touch, it’s mind-blowing!”
This “Crossing” owes its name to the desire of the two artists to offer a real “graphic walk” to Toulouse residents.
They are behind the Hypercube du Castelet
In addition to the fresco of Saint-Pierre, the two artists are currently exhibiting their “Hypercube” in the courtyard of the Castelet of the former Saint-Michel prison.
“It’s a reinterpretation of the prison, made up of several cellular structures, explains Nicolas Delpech. Our idea was to put flags – they have a fairly strong connotation of demands and freedom – and to lock them up, to prevent them from moving, in these cellular structures”.
“It’s a structure in which we can enter. It’s something that contains us at heart. We can lock ourselves in, have several points of view. We have made sure that we can be drowned and immersed in these flags which can recall fingerprints or even the outfit of the convicts.”
Again, this is an ephemeral work. It will be visible until August 14, 2022.
