Toulouse-Brussels by bike: Constance and Christelle did it!
Christelle Coessens and Constance Schaerer succeeded in taking up their challenge, which consisted of cycling from Toulouse to Brussels, for the benefit of cancer research. They cost more than 2800 euros.
Exhausted but happy! They arrived on Saturday at 5 p.m., in Woluwé-Saint-Lambert in Brussels, where a small welcoming committee was waiting for them with a bottle of champagne. Christelle Coessens (42 years old) and Constance Schaerer (23 years old) ended their 1,174 kilometer journey by bike there.
The two women had left ten days earlier from the Cancer Research Center (CRCT), located at the Oncopole, in Toulouse. Their goal: to raise funds for cancer research. “To date, we have raised €2,857 but we intend to reach €3,000 by the end of the week”, rejoices Christelle.
The supercharged Belgian, a sports coach for people with cancer, had the idea of launching this challenge, bringing Constance, who herself lost her father to pancreatic cancer, on her wheel.
During these ten days on the roads of France, the two cyclists drooled, with the heat which came to put their bodies to the test. “There were days when it was a nightmare”, recognizes Christelle, but there is no question of letting go of the handlebars.
In the end, this two-wheeled challenge turned out to be “not just cycling. Above all, it was a truly incredible human experience that allowed us to discover each other while surpassing ourselves and to make very beautiful encounters on the side of the road. As of Monday, the two new friends found their way back to their respective jobs. Hats off girls!
