Simon Eder: “I love what I do, that’s the most important” – Infos Sports – Ski

A true phenomenon of longevity
Like his dad Alfred Eder, who later became a sought-after and recognized trainer, Simon Eder will still be a high-level biathlete after his 40th birthday, a rare feat that alone deserves a tip of the hat.
“When I was young, I thought of celebrating my 40th birthday in a nice mountain chalet with my wife, drinking good whisky; now I think it will be in Oberhof at the worlds!
The closer I get to the end of my career, the more I see the value in it. I really want to race and train for another year or two. I have a job that I really love; it’s the most important choice.” he explains to Biathlonworld.
Simon Eder, without a doubt the best shooter on the circuit for many years, has patiently built up a nice track record based on his precision, to the point of being on the podium at least once in the last 16 seasons. .
“I didn’t know that. Now there’s a lot of pressure for next winter!
It’s always a great goal and motivation to do it. I know so many athletes who work just as hard and have never been on the podium once. It’s a great privilege.”
His next career podium, if he arrives, will necessarily go through a flawless shot because on skis, the Austrian has never been able to compete with the best.
“I’ve never done a lot of volume, maybe that’s why I’m not that fast. I know how much training my body can handle. I try to do between 600 and 700 hours and do a lot of quality training.
Last season I did 37 lessons so there is no room for training in the season. For me, it is more important to have quality training than to go up to 800 hours.”
Simon Eder knows his body better than anyone and his way of training has allowed him to achieve an extended career, far from the trajectory of some young people who are already grilled before the age of 25.
“I have only one goal left before my retirement, in one or two seasons, to get back on an individual podium one last time in the World Cup, it will go through a perfect shot, and the 20km should be my best chance” conclude the Austrian.
