in July, a record series of high temperatures
If the whole country has suffered from the heat wave in recent weeks, it is even more true in Toulouse. According to Gaétan Heymes, forecaster at Météo-France, the Pink City has indeed chained a record series of high temperatures. This succession of extreme temperatures ended on Saturday July 23.
The records of 2003 and 2006 remain unequaled
According to the forecast, from July 5 to 22, Toulouse recorded “18 consecutive days at more than 30°C”. This is two days more than the previous record of 16 consecutive days from July 12 to 27, 2006.
Gaétan Heymes also underlines a “series of 8 days at more than 35°C” which occurred during these 18 days, from July 10 to 18. A duration which does not equal the 12 consecutive days at over 35°C that Toulouse experienced in August during the heat wave of 2003. As a reminder, the heat wave alert ended a few days ago in Haute-Garonne and most of France. Only 10 departments in the south-east remain on heatwave yellow vigilance.
Despite the drop in temperatures, watch out for wildfires
Although temperatures are falling, vigilance is still required with regard to the risk of wildfires. The General Directorate of Civil Security alerts in this direction this Tuesday, July 26, warning that Occitania, Provence and Corsica present “a very strong danger of fires”.
This very high meteorological danger is linked to the wind regime, mistral, tramontana and libeccio, quite strong to strong, conditions remaining very hot and dry on increasingly sensitive vegetation, “adds Civil Security.
It is therefore necessary to remain on your guard and adopt the right reflexes: do not throw cigarette butts in nature, tinker away from vegetation or even do not barbecue near grass.
