Cézanne was not mistaken by painting here, in 1896, Le Lac Bleu. The port of Talloires nestles in a cove, sheltered by the nature reserve of Roc de Chère. Its pier, worthy of a movie set, hosted the filming of Éric Rohmer’s film, Claire’s Knee.
Jewels of the bay, the Abbey, built in the 17th century for the Benedictines, is now a hotel restaurant. Its Prior’s room has retained the original pious decoration. The historic Auberge du Père Bise has won two Michelin stars with the arrival of chef Jean Sulpice. These houses contribute to the hotel infrastructure of around 650 beds, spread over around ten establishments on a human scale.
Water, land and air activities
A wooded lawn descending towards clear waters, Talloires beach is one of the most remarkable on the lake, reputed to be the purest in Europe. Water sports are practiced there, in particular sailing and Stand Up Paddle. Hikers appreciate the forest road to the Angon waterfall and the Pont des Fées; the sportiest climb the Tournette, with nearly 2,000 meters of vertical drop. The Col de La Forclaz, at 1,157 meters, offers a majestic view of Lake Annecy and is one of the most popular paragliding sites on the continent. The Greenway, which covers 35 kilometers of municipalities, protects the lake and is a delight for cyclists.
Four-season tourism
An ideal seaside resort for a summer destination, Talloires is a perfect base camp for winter sports, with La Clusaz less than 30 kilometers away. From January, the first paddle race of the year takes place there, the Glagla Race, before those of the summer. Avril welcomes a gathering of several hundred Volkswagen Beetle or Combi. In May, a famous Book Festival brings together around twenty authors for literary meetings and signing sessions on the port.
This is also where the flea market on May 1st takes place, then the craft markets, concerts and other pyrotechnic events in the summer. Finally, on September 1st, the traditional climb of the Tournette takes place, running and hiking, in this landscape so privileged that it must remain a secret not to be told too much.
