squad, transfers and goals for the season
The end of July is approaching and the Ligue 1 championship will soon resume its rights. Among the teams contending for the podium at the end of the season, AS Monaco experienced an off-season, as very often, quite busy with relatively few departures for many arrivals. Decryption of the Monegasque workforce, ambitions for next season and the competitiveness of the team before a season which will start next Tuesday with a double confrontation against PSV Eindhoven in qualifying for the next Champions League.
The results of AS Monaco last season
After a rather successful Ligue 1 2021/22 championship with a third place obtained, for a breath behind Olympique de Marseille, AS Monaco is coming out of a good season at the national level. In line with the expectations of its leaders who wanted to offer themselves the possibility of playing in the Champions League, the Monegasques nevertheless disappointed on the European scene with a sad elimination in the round of 16 of the Europa League against Sporting Braga in a double confrontation where Monaco will have lacked a lot of realism to hope to reach the quarter-finals.
The movements of the off-season
Thanks to the departure for nearly 80 million euros (excluding bonuses) of the French international Aurélien Tchouaméni, the Monegasques have resumed the best of ways, in accounting terms, their transfer window. Leaving for Real Madrid, the Monegasque was also followed by Jean-Eudes Aholou, Strahinja Pavlovic and Pietro Pellegri, the only transfers to have won the money at the club of the principality (95M€ in total).
On the sporting level, it will be necessary to find replacements for the players who have left and for this, the Monegasque staff have for the moment started their shopping again. With certain loan returns which could be important to the Monegasque collective (Geubbels and Musaba in particular), the Monegasque club has also defined two interesting names for next season, the Swiss Breel Embolo from Borussia Monchengladbach as well as the Japanese Takumi Minamino (who came of Liverpool for €15 million). Only transfers on the side of arrivals in the club of the principality, the financial balance of the transfer window is for the moment largely positive (95 M€ of receipts against 27.5 M€ of expenditure).

AS Monaco: ambitions and ranking
In view of the coming season and the Monegasque workforce, the ambitions of the club from the principality are quite high. Despite the departure of Aurélien Tchouaméni, the workforce retains a higher quality compared to its pairs in Ligue 1 and AS Monaco has an eleven and substitutes largely capable of aiming for the podium and possibly to titillate Paris Saint-Germain.
In the European Cup, the start of the season will be crucial in establishing the club’s ambitions this season, but there is no doubt that if they qualify for the group stage, AS Monaco will aim for the round of 16.
Player to watch: Takumi Minamino
Barred by very high level competition in Liverpool (Salah, Mané, Firmino) reinforced by the arrival of Darwin Nunez in particular, the Japanese pocket striker Minamino lands on the rock with a lot of ambitions.
Now holder in the Eleven type of Clément, the Japanese will have to adapt quickly to Ligue 1 and share his experience on the European scene to start a season which could allow him to take a real step in his progress.
