Haute-Garonne: “Maggots in the fridge”, details Pierre, 82, whose apartment was filled with waste by his tenant
Pierre, 82, has rented an apartment to a young woman in Tournefeuille. She left without leaving an address. The owner has just done the inventory.
“It’s a pigsty.” In early July, Pierre, 82, entered for the first time in months an apartment he owns in Tournefeuille. On the threshold of the door, he had seen the extent of the damage. His tenant had left the premises without giving any news to such an extent that relatives, worried, had called in the firefighters to enter the accommodation. It was then that Pierre had discovered, on photos, the heaps of rubbish.
The owner let the family of the former tenant clean the apartment of the one who seems to have Diogenes syndrome. She needed the trash all the way to the bed and dozens of bags were needed to empty the place. It took several weekends to make the apartment look acceptable. Pierre has just made the inventory in the presence of the parents of his former tenant and that of a commissioner of justice (Editor’s note, ex-bailiffs).
“The apartment is satisfactory, better than I could have feared, he rejoices. But everything is not perfect”. For weeks, the electricity was cut in the accommodation. “I discovered the combined fridge-freezer in the bulky waste room. There were maggots to go fishing for three years,” explains the disgusted owner.
Cannabis cultivation
The tenant’s family took care to plug in essential oil diffusers. “I’m afraid that if we remove them, the smell of cannabis will come back”. Because, in addition to accumulating rubbish, the tenant indulged in the cultivation of drugs in the small apartment.
He continues: “Two shelves are still hung on the walls, one of which is made with a half-pallet. Huge holes must be present. Who is going to dismantle them and fill the holes? It’s me!”
Nevertheless, Pierre tempers: “I am not complaining because I feared the worst. On the other hand, I will continue to make things happen for the law which is not in favor of the owners”. It now remains for Pierre to reimburse the number of months of occupation of the premises and the payment for the inventory of fixtures of the apartment which he had acquired for his daughter many years ago.
