Rugby League – Superleague: Toulouse Olympique’s Black Saturday
After the setback against Salford, the TO grilled a joker. Friday, the reception of Hull FC must result in a victory.
Saturday evenings at Ernest – Wallon follow one another and are not alike. Last week at the reception of Leeds, it was euphoria at the press conference. Saturday, the silence was golden to the point that you could have heard a pin drop. The Toulousains did not pass the pass of four which would have allowed them to relegate Wakefield to two lengths. Salford thus won (24-11) and can now hope for a possible qualification for the play-offs. As for the TO, it (completely) missed its subject.

Moreover, in a few words, Sylvain Houlès summed up this very dark Saturday well: “We were not good, not at the level of a Super League team. We made too many mistakes. The defeat is logical. We can regret before the break, the spoon on Tony Gigot which deprives us of a possibility of leading 13-6 instead of 9-6.
Less than twenty-four hours later, the Olympians have even learned some good news. St Helens returned victorious from Wakefield (13-12). The leader of the event won thanks to a drop from Jack Welsby in the terrible “golden point” event. This drop from the rear of the Saints thus confirmed Wakefield in last place, that of the relegation player provided for in his canceled goal average (Toulouse – 178, Wakefield – 225).
Hull FC not at best
At the end of this twentieth day, the formation of President Sarrazain finds itself once again at the foot of the wall. Friday evening, the reception of Hull FC must necessarily result in a victory. In the first leg, on the eleventh day, the TO had recorded its heaviest defeat of the season (12-48). At the moment, the “Airlies Birds” are not in good health. In July, they certainly won the derby (34-28) against Rovers (Hull KR) during the Magic Weekend. On the other hand, they doubled down at home against Leeds (18-62) and Castleford on Friday evening (18-46) while the trip to Wigan ended in a humiliating (0-60).
Sylvain Houlès’ team must therefore take advantage of this drop in the “FC” regime to relaunch its season. Either way, victory is imperative on Friday night. Seven days before the end of the classification phase, Toulouse no longer have the right to make mistakes, especially on their lawn. In Wallonia, part of their season will be played against the Airlies Birds.
