Heavy Metal Sextet will play on Saturday in the Old Town Square
Double bass player Mariusz Bogdanowicz and his Heavy Metal Sextet (HMS) will perform at the 28th International Jazz Festival in the Old Town. The concert in the Old Town Square will start on Saturday at 19.
“He has titled a long history a jazz band about the perverse old metal Sextet will perform at our festival as part of its program,” informed Iwona Strzelczyk Wojciechowska, who, together with Krzysztof Wojciechowski, is organizing the 28th Jazz in the Old Town for the 28th time.
A jazz formation, hidden under the name of heavy metal, gb: one of the most common Polish double bass players, Mariusz Bogdanowicz, and saxophonists: Janusz Kowalski and Marcin Ślusarski; pianist Adam Jarzmik who also plays keyboards and drummer Mirosław Sitkowski. The team to be achieved is derived from the hardbop team and influencing the contribution of Fusion.
Heavy Metal Sextet was founded in 1982 on the initiative of the double bass player and composer Mariusz Bogdanowicz. At the Jazz ’82 festival in Krakow, the Junior team, in the group category and the individual winners, place: placement in the group of Waldem K. Szymański and Mariusz Bogdanowicz.
All members of the first line-up studied at the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Academy of Music in Katowice.
1982-84 until the successful formation. HMS got the key to a career at the Pomeranian Jazz Autumn’82; Jan Ptaszynski awarded the capital with the Golden Dy’82 foundation. The musicians were also awarded as “New Hope” in 1982; third Band of the Year (1983) and second (1984) in the Jazz Top poll by “Jazz Forum” magazine.
In 1983-84 Heavy Metal Sextet recorded two albums. It has also been appreciated abroad, incl. in 1984 at a jazz competition in Dunkirk, France, where the musicians were honored with the first prize. In Belgium, at Jazz Hoeilaart HMS she won a place. Trumpeter Waldemar Szymański received the award as a soloist.
The band is invited to important festivals, such as Jazz on the Odra, Jazz Jamboree, Bratislava Jazz Days 83 ‘Pomeranian Jazz Autumn; Umbria Jazz in Perugia, Italy, and the Scandinavian Jazz Week in Umea, Sweden.
In 1984, HMS suspended its activities. He reactivated in 2010.
“Janusz Kowalski is a graduate of the Music School in Berklee and lives in Boston. Other + heavy metal + people in Poland” – recalled Strzelczyk Wojciechowska.
The 28th International Open-Air Festival Jazz in the Old Town, organized by the Jazz Art Foundation, will last until August 27, 2022.
The edition is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund under the “Music” program, consultancy by the National Institute of Music and Dance and from the funds of the Capital City of Warsaw.
